Fly Killers
Fly killers come in many shapes, sizes and prices; and each differ in features and operating methods. Deciding which fly killer is most useful for your situation isn’t always easy, especially when researching them for the first time.
Fly killers come in two main types: electric grid and glue board. These descriptions refer to the way they trap the flying insects. Electric fly killers electrocute flying pests upon collision with the internal electric grid (the collision completes the circuit which creates the desired electrical arc). The insects then typically drop down in to a ‘catch-tray’ for easy disposal.
However, glue board fly killers work in a different way. A replaceable glue board within the fly killer unit acts as the trap. Insects collide with the glue board, becoming permanently stuck and unable to detach themselves.
Although both types of fly killer offer highly effective trapping methods, there are situations where one type may be more suitable than the other. Glue board fly killers can offer certain hygiene advantages over their electric grid counterparts. Electric grid fly killers can occasionally eject insect debris from the unit as a result of the arc of electricity striking the flying pest. In locations such as food preparation or product packaging areas, this is obviously not desirable.
Glue fly killers avoid this problem completely as insects always remain whole and stay firmly stuck to the glue board. It is important to note, however, that the glue boards need to be replaced occasionally to keep the fly killer operating effectively. We typically recommend glue boards are replaced every 2-3 months.
All fly killers from Intelligent Vending, whether electric grid or glue board, attract flying insects using specially formulated high attraction U.V. (Ultra Violet) bulbs. Shatter resistant UV bulbs are also available for all models, and should be seriously considered if the fly killers are to be used in sensitive areas (such as the aforementioned food preparation or packaging areas).
If you are planning to use fly killers outside or in a damp location it is essential that an IP-rated model is purchased. IP (Ingress Protection) ratings refer to a products degree of protection from objects or elements. When purchasing any electrical goods for use outside it is vital they offer a suitable IP rating.
Even if you are not intending to put your fly killer outdoors, it is still important to consider where the fly killer will be placed before committing to a purchase. Fly killers can be mounted in various different ways, and although the majority of fly killers from Intelligent Vending are suitable for wall mounting, suspending from ceilings and free-standing – the options do vary. For a smooth transaction make sure fly killer placement has been fully planned out in advance of order.
