Post: AVEX 2009 International Vending and Water Exhibition
Last month, the 2009 AVEX vending exhibition was held at the Birmingham NEC. The AVEX exhibition has always been a great opportunity for sneaking an insightful preview of all the latest vending innovations, and this year was no exception. In between all the hand shaking and coffee drinking, we got a chance to look close in to the not-so-distant future of vending.

As we are always on the look-out for new things to offer our customers, we were excited to see what products were going to be featured – hoping to find potential additions for our own catalogue. Numerous interesting displays caught our attention during our time at the exhibition; however, there were a few in particular that stood out from the crowd.
There is no doubt summer is upon us. Consequently we felt it was fitting the first product mention from the show is the new range of ‘Bag in Box’ water coolers currently in development by Aqueduct. We were highly impressed by the ultra stylish design of these water coolers and the potential for financial savings and environmental benefits.

The environment seemed to be a recurring theme throughout the show; usually presenting itself in the form of lowered power consumption or increased efficiency. However, one vending machine took a different approach altogether.
The Pouchlink cold drinks vending machine from SandenVendo aims to cut costs and lessen environmental damage by reducing the transportation of water and enabling the use of more cost effective ingredients and packaging. Additionally, up to 80% less energy is used for cooling when compared to conventional vending equipment.

The Pouchlink vending machine also utilises the ‘Bag in Box’ method. It works by mixing concentrated syrup from boxes stored in the top of the machine (available for many popular drinks) with water from a plumbed in supply. The mixture is then pumped in to a pouch, before automatically sealing and vending to the customer. All of this is done on-the-fly and in front of the user: providing an interesting visual display while helping to attract additional attention.
While AVEX 2009 offered a couple of interesting days out, it also re-emphasised the significance of vending. The selection of diverse products and vending innovations from recent years displayed at the AVEX exhibition highlighted the huge interest and dedication there is for vending – reflective of its importance and position in the marketplace. Vending, like any other successful sector will continue to evolve and progress as new innovations push at the walls of possibility – and this year was no exception. We cannot wait to see what AVEX 2011 will bring.
